A rare total lunar eclipse, also called a ‘Blood Moon’, lit up the night sky on Sunday. The eclipse began at 9:58 PM and the total phase started at 11:01 PM, lasting for 82 minutes.
During this time, the Moon turned a reddish-orange color. This happens when sunlight passes through the Earth’s atmosphere and casts a red glow on the Moon. Experts said this was the longest lunar eclipse since 2022.
The Blood Moon was clearly visible in many parts of Tamil Nadu, though some areas in India missed it due to rain. Special viewing arrangements were made at places like the Birla Planetarium, where people gathered to watch the rare event.
As per tradition, many temples were closed ahead of the eclipse and reopened only after rituals were performed.
The next total lunar eclipse will take place only in 2028.
