Chennai and nearby areas received heavy rain with thunder early on Tuesday. The sudden downpour lasted for a few hours and caused waterlogging on many roads, slowing down traffic.
Apart from Chennai, districts like Vellore, Ranipet, and Kanchipuram also experienced strong showers. People were affected as the rain came during the busy morning hours.
The Meteorological Department has said that Chennai and surrounding regions may get more rain with thunder until September 19.
