AIADMK General Secretary and Leader of Opposition Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) left for Delhi on Monday morning. He said his main purpose of the visit was to personally meet CPR Radhakrishnan and congratulate him on being elected as the Vice President of India.
EPS said it was important to acknowledge the victory of a leader from Tamil Nadu who has risen to such a high constitutional post. “I will meet him and extend my greetings on behalf of AIADMK and the people of Tamil Nadu,” he stated.
The visit comes at a time when AIADMK is facing internal turbulence. Recently, senior AIADMK leader and former minister KA Sengottaiyan met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi, triggering speculation in political circles about possible interventions in the party’s affairs.
When asked whether he too would seek an appointment with Amit Shah during his Delhi stay, EPS firmly denied it. “There is no plan to meet Amit Shah. My trip is only to meet and congratulate CPR Radhakrishnan,” he clarified.
Observers note that EPS’s denial is significant, as AIADMK has been witnessing a series of meetings between its leaders and the BJP high command, fueling rumours of factional equations and possible alliances ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
For now, EPS has made it clear that his Delhi visit is purely to honour CPR Radhakrishnan and not to engage in any political discussions with the BJP leadership.
