Chennai,Ā Sept 17:
The Tamil Nadu government has called for tenders to develop a new 2,000-acre ‘Global City’ near Chennai. The project aims to provide modern infrastructure, residential areas, commercial zones, schools, hospitals, and recreational spaces.
The city is planned to ease population pressure on Chennai, reduce congestion, and improve the quality of life for residents. It is also expected to create jobs and attract investments in various sectors.
Officials are considering areas like Chengalpattu, Sriperumbudur, and Thiruvallur for the project. Authorities said the development will focus on sustainability and proper integration with existing transportation and utilities.
The government plans to include green spaces, smart city features, and efficient public transport within the Global City. Emphasis will also be on eco-friendly buildings and renewable energy solutions to minimize environmental impact.
State officials have said that the tender process is a crucial first step and that construction will begin once approvals and clearances are completed. The project is seen as a long-term effort to make Chennai and its surrounding regions more livable and economically vibrant.
