Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking for immediate action to supply fertilizers to the state. He said this is necessary to prevent shortages during the peak farming season. From June this year, paddy has been cultivated on 5.66 lakh hectares in Tamil Nadu, which is 10% more than last year. Because of the larger area under cultivation, demand for fertilizers like Urea, DAP, MOP, and Complex fertilizers has increased. But the state has so far received only about 57% of its allotted share.
In his letter, Stalin requested the Union government to urgently send 27,823 metric tons of Urea, 15,831 metric tons of DAP, 12,422 metric tons of MOP, and 98,623 metric tons of Complex fertilizers. He said these supplies are crucial for both the ongoing Karif season and the upcoming Rabi season.
Stalin also pointed out that Tamil Nadu has good rainfall and enough water in reservoirs, making it an ideal time for cultivation. But he warned that without enough fertilizer, farmers’ crops and incomes could be badly affected.
