The Chennai District Collectorate, currently located at M. Singaravelar Maaligai on Rajaji Salai, will be relocated to a new complex at the Madras Race Club premises in Guindy. The government has allocated 1.43 hectares near Guindy railway station for the project.
The relocation aims to reduce congestion and address space constraints at Rajaji Salai, where over 2,100 petitions and applications are received daily. The new Collectorate will house key departments, including Revenue and Disaster Management, and will offer modern facilities such as public waiting halls, hearing rooms, and digital service counters.
The Guindy location is easily accessible via road, rail, and metro, providing better convenience for the public. Current operations at M. Singaravelar Maaligai will continue until the construction of the new complex is completed.
After the relocation, the Rajaji Salai site is planned to be redeveloped into a multi-storey judicial complex, which will help ease the workload on the High Court and improve administrative efficiency in the city.
