Chennai and its neighboring districts are likely to experience heavy rainfall on Saturday, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC).A well-marked low-pressure area over the west-central Bay of Bengal intensified into a deep depression by Wednesday. It is expected to move north-northwestwards and cross the coasts of Odisha and adjoining Andhra Pradesh between Gopalpur and Paradip by the night of October 2.
As a result, light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning is expected over Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on Friday, October 3. From October 4 onwards, heavy rainfall is predicted in several districts, including Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Ranipet, Vellore, Ramanathapuram, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, and Salem.
Thunderstorms and lightning are also likely at isolated places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal until October 6. Residents have been advised to stay alert, follow weather updates, and take necessary precautions during the anticipated heavy rainfall.
