The Tamil Nadu government has announced that Right to Education (RTE) admissions for the 2025–26 academic year will start on October 6 and continue until October 17. The process will be conducted online.Priority for admissions will be given to children from marginalized backgrounds, including orphans, HIV-affected children, transgender children, children of scavengers, and differently-abled children. Over 6,000 private schools are expected to declare their entry-level seats to identify the 25% quota reserved under the RTE Act.
The announcement follows the release of ₹450 crore by the Union government to reimburse tuition fees for students enrolled in private schools under RTE. Earlier delays in fund release occurred due to disputes over implementing the three-language policy in PM SHRI schools. Following court directions, the central government approved the release of funds.
Parents seeking RTE admissions are advised to apply online within the stipulated dates. The move aims to ensure timely admission and quality education for children from economically and socially disadvantaged backgrounds.
