Travellers from Rameswaram and surrounding areas have requested the railway authorities to operate an unreserved special train from Rameswaram to Chennai to ease travel after the Diwali holiday season. Many people who traveled to their hometowns for the festival are now facing difficulty returning to Chennai due to fully booked regular trains.
According to passengers, all fast train tickets from Ramanathapuram, Rameswaram, Paramakudi, and Sivagangai to Chennai are sold out, and no tickets are available for booking on October 21. They urge the railways to run a special service without prior reservation from Rameswaram to Chennai to meet the high demand.
Passengers highlighted that traveling by bus from Ramanathapuram to Chennai costs between Rs. 1500 to Rs. 3000 per person, making it expensive for families. Operating a special unreserved train would provide a more affordable and convenient option for many. This appeal reflects the ongoing pressure on train services during festive seasons, reinforcing the need for additional short-term solutions to accommodate surge in passenger volumes. Railway officials are yet to announce a response to this request.
