Shaalin Zoya, renowned for her work in Malayalam cinema and reality TV, is set to make her Tamil directorial debut with a new film set against a rural backdrop in the late 1990s.
The movie is described as a fantasy comedy and will feature Brigida Saga and Arun (of Nakkalites fame) in the lead roles.
Joining the main leads are a diverse ensemble including MS Bhaskar, Aruldoss, Ilavarasu, Devadarshini, Java Sundaresan, Jenson Diwakar, and Aniruth, while Ashwin Kakumanu appears in a special guest role.
The narrative centers around a village incident from the late ’90s to early 2000s, exploring how it transforms the lives of its residents, blending fantasy and humor.
Shaalin Zoya expressed her excitement and challenges in taking on directorial duties in Tamil cinema through social media, marking her 10th year in filmmaking since first wearing the directorâs hat.
She highlighted the storyâs comedic and fantastical approach, aiming to offer a fresh exploration of rural experiences.
The technical team includes K Ramcharan (cinematography), Suresh A Prasad (editing), and D Santhosh (art direction). KS Ramakrishna backs the project under RK International banner. The film is set to commence production soon, and further updates on shooting schedules are expected.
