Nearly seven months after being removed from his party post and ministerial position due to controversial remarks on women, senior DMK leader K Ponmudy has made a political comeback.
He has been reinstated as one of the Deputy General Secretaries of the DMK.
The elevation was announced by DMK president and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin under Rule 17, Section 3 of the party constitution.
Ponmudy was stripped of his position in April following a backlash over a video in which he made derogatory and sexist comments at a public event, drawing sharp criticism across political and social spheres.
Despite this, he remained active within the party, and his reinstatement marks a significant return to influence in the DMK. Alongside Ponmudy’s reinstatement, Tamil Development and Information Minister MP Saminathan has been elevated as a Deputy General Secretary as well.
