MTC bags national award

Chennai, Nov 10 The Metropolitan Transport Corporation (Chennai) (MTC) has been awarded the national title of “City with the Best Public Transport System” at the UMI Conference 2025 organised by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. MTC earned the recognition thanks to its expansive network of 660 routes in and around Chennai, along with key initiatives like free bus travel for women, a dedicated school-bus service, the rollout of electric buses, and the adoption of digital payments through national mobility cards, UPI and the “Chennai One” mobile app. This award underscores Chennai’s push for sustainable, inclusive and digitally enabled urban mobility, and positions MTC as a model for public-transport excellence in India. @@@@
