Address poll officers’ concerns, TTV Dhinakaran urges govt

Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) leader TTV Dhinakaran on Tuesday made a strong appeal to the Tamil Nadu government to address the growing dissatisfaction among revenue officials involved in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Dhinakaran warned that the SIR process has not been thoroughly planned, resulting in overburdened staff. He pointed out that many government employees have gone on strike, citing unfair workloads and being asked to work even on holidays to meet tight deadlines. To mitigate these problems, he called on the government to provide adequate training to the revenue officials handling the SIR operations. According to him, better preparation would help ensure accuracy in voter lists and ease the stress on the employees. Beyond training, Dhinakaran also urged a reduction in the workload assigned to these officials. He argued that without scaling back demands, the SIR process risks compromising both efficiency and fairness. In addition, he resurrected a long-standing demand: the old pension scheme for government staff. Dhinakaran insisted that the government must not ignore this demand if it wants to retain confidence and motivation among its employees. @@@@
