The AIADMK staged a strong protest in Chennai accusing the ruling DMK government of interfering in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) voter correction exercise and attempting to derail the transparent process overseen by the Election Commission.
The agitation, organised by the Chennai Districts Committee, was held at the Egmore Rajarathinam Stadium and led by senior AIADMK leader and former Minister D. Jayakumar. Senior leaders and a large number of party cadres carrying flags and placards participated in the demonstration, raising slogans against the DMK for its alleged misuse of power.
The protest, originally scheduled for November 17, was postponed due to heavy rains caused by a low-pressure formation over the Bay of Bengal.
AIADMK General Secretary and Leader of the Opposition Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) strongly condemned the DMK government, accusing its Ministers, MPs, MLAs, local body representatives, and functionaries of intimidation, disruption, and direct interference during the SIR exercise. He alleged that DMK members had obstructed officials, threatened the public, and attempted to influence the voter correction process to manipulate electoral rolls ahead of upcoming elections.
Party leaders said the agitation aimed to expose the ruling party’s unlawful actions and to demand free, fair, and transparent electoral procedures in Tamil Nadu. They asserted that the people and cadres of the State would not tolerate any attempt to undermine democratic institutions.
The AIADMK vowed to continue its fight to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process and ensure that the voter roll revision is conducted without political interference.
