With the 2026 Assembly elections fast approaching, the AIADMK has convened its General Council and Executive Committee meetings on December 10 at a marriage hall in Vanagaram. The meetings will be chaired by Party Presidium Chairman Dr. A. Thamizhmahan Hussain and presided over by General Secretary and Leader of Opposition Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS).Key discussions will focus on alliance strategy, poll preparedness, and strengthening the party. The meeting comes amid desertions of some senior faces to the ruling DMK and the recent expulsion of former Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan for demanding reinduction of O. Panneerselvam, V.K. Sasikala and T.T.V. Dhinakaran.
Though EPS has firmly rejected the proposal, unity issues are expected to be raised in the context of facing the 2026 polls as a consolidated force.
This will be the first meeting of the AIADMKās highest decision-making bodies after reviving electoral ties with the BJP to challenge the DMK-led Front, which has registered successive victories since 2019.
EPS has urged all office-bearers and functionaries to attend and extend full cooperation. He said the focus will be on strengthening organisational structure, coordination among wings, and political outreach.
The party is also making efforts to rope in former allies, including the OBC-Vanniyar-based PMK ā currently facing internal leadership issues ā and the DMDK of late leader Vijayakanth, along with other like-minded parties, aiming to build a strong alliance for the crucial 2026 elections.
