The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) continues their intense interrogation of top leaders from the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) regarding the tragic Karur incident that occurred on September 27.
Yesterday, the CBI questioned key functionaries for over eight hours, focusing on the critical hours during and after the tragedy.
The questioning centered around why the leaders left the scene and the town instead of participating in rescue operations, as revealed through CCTV footage retrieved from actor Vijay’s political campaign vehicle that was present during the event.
The CBI officers probed whether the leaders were aware of the severity of the situation, including fatalities occurring while actor Vijay was addressing the crowd.Leaders questioned include TVK general secretary N Anand, deputy general secretary CTR Nirmal Kumar, election campaign general secretary Aadhav Arjuna, Karur district secretary VP Mathiyazhagan, and town secretary MC Pounraj.
They were summoned to the PWD Guest House, where the CBI is conducting the inquiry, and access was tightly controlled by police to prevent supporters from entering.
The investigation specifically focused on the actions taken by the TVK leaders once the situation escalated, particularly why they reportedly vacated the venue while people were still in danger. The arrival of these leaders also saw an influx of party cadre to the guest house, causing tense exchanges with law enforcement before they dispersed.
The interrogation process is ongoing today as the CBI seeks to uncover all relevant facts connected to the Karur tragedy and the response of the TVK leadership.
