The Madras High Court issued an interim order restraining the release of actor Karthi’s upcoming film Vaa Vaathiyaar due to unpaid dues owed by producer Studio Green. The film, directed by Nalan Kumarasamy and produced by Gnanavel Raja, was scheduled for theatrical release on December 5, 2025.
The bench of Justices SM Subramaniam and C Kumarappan prohibited the release until December 5 and adjourned the matter to December 8.
The Official Assignee petitioned the court after businessman S Arjunlal Sunderdas was declared insolvent in 2014, with Studio Green borrowing Rs 10.35 crore that has ballooned to Rs 21.78 crore with interest.
The plea sought repayment from Gnanavel Raja, a stay on the film’s release, and deposit of all revenue into court. This long-running issue stems from a 2019 order that Studio Green partially complied with.
The stay creates uncertainty for the action-comedy, originally pushed from December 5 to December 12, including its Telugu version Annagaru Vostaru
