Tamil Nadu Rural Development Minister I. Periyasamy asserted that no law mandates accepting court decisions outright, revealing the DMK government’s appeal to the Supreme Court over the Madras High Court’s order in the Tirupparankundram bypoll dispute.

Speaking to reporters in Dindigul after paying homage to Ambedkar on his remembrance day, Periyasamy dismissed concerns about leaders like CN Annadurai and Nanjil Sampath joining Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), calling it insignificant since TVK lacks public forum recognition. He emphasized the DMK’s correct path on Tirupparangundram, rejecting religion-based politics as ineffective among voters.

Periyasamy highlighted massive deletions from voter lists in his Athoor constituency, claiming 22,000 names were removed overnight under the guise of intensive revision without proper house-to-house verification by Booth Level Officers (BLOs). He accused BLOs of fabricating forms in one room to inflate deletions, citing examples like a living DMK functionary marked as deceased and irregularities in Narikkalpatti and Neelamalikottai areas.

The minister has lodged complaints with the Election Commission, demanding immediate cancellation of such processes and fair elections.

Periyasamy anticipates a favorable Supreme Court ruling soon on their appeal, maintaining the government’s legal strategy amid ongoing disproportionate assets case proceedings against him, where the apex court recently stayed trial orders.

The event saw participation from Mayor Ilamathi and Congress leaders, underscoring party unity.
