Hindu Munnani activists staged statewide protests condemning the DMK government over the Thiruparankundram Deepam dispute, resulting in over 1,000 arrests as police dispersed unsanctioned gatherings in Chennai, Tiruppur, Madurai, and Coimbatore.
In Chennai’s Koyambedu, spokesperson Ilangovan led 200+ including stunt trainer Kanal Kannan and BJP councillor Uma Anandan in marches along 100 Feet Road; scuffles erupted when protesters blocked buses, with one devotee’s Sabarimala garland torn during bundling. Tiruppur saw 1,000+ detained across 15 spots like Dharapuram Road under state leader Kadeswara Subramaniam, despite bans.
Madurai’s Palanganathapuram drew 250 led by state secretary Sevugan, plus 30 in nearby Ezhamalai; Coimbatore’s Selvapuram and Chetpet saw Hindu Makkal Katchi chief Arjun Sampath among 40 arrested demanding DMK dismissal and Justice Swaminathan action for defying court orders on hilltop lamp lighting.
