The Greater Chennai Corporation has extended the deadline for pet dog licensing, rabies vaccination, and microchipping to December 14. The original deadline was December 7, but officials decided to extend it after witnessing a strong turnout at the special camps held across the city.Over the past week, thousands of pet owners have visited these camps to get official licenses for their dogs, vaccinate them against rabies, and install microchips. On Sunday alone, special camps conducted at seven centres, including major veterinary hospitals, handled 956 dogs, providing all three services — vaccination, microchipping, and licensing.
So far, the Corporation has recorded 96,056 licensed pet dogs within Chennai city limits. Officials said that the extension will help more pet owners complete the required procedures on time and will also strengthen public safety by preventing the spread of rabies and ensuring proper identification of pets.
The Corporation has urged all pet owners to make use of the extended deadline and finish the mandatory process by December 14 without fail.
