The release of the highly anticipated film Vaa Vaathiyaar, starring Karthi and directed by Nalan Kumaraswamy, has been stayed by the Madras High Court. The court issued the order after the production house Studio Green — led by producer K. E. Gnanavel Raja — failed to repay a long-standing loan. According to the court order, the outstanding dues amount to ₹ 21.78 crore, owed to a financier whose estate is being handled by the court’s Official Assignee. Until the amount is fully repaid (or a substantial portion is deposited), the film cannot be released on any platform.
Originally scheduled for release on December 5 and later postponed to December 12, Vaa Vaathiyaar had even secured a U/A certificate from the censor board. But the legal ruling has now put the film’s release on indefinite hold.
The cast also includes Krithi Shetty, with supporting actors Sathyaraj, Rajkiran and others. The film’s music is composed by Santhosh Narayanan.
