Schools across Tamil Nadu will remain closed for a total of 12 days owing to a series of government-declared holidays, according to official sources. The extended break includes festival holidays and regular weekly holidays, giving students and teachers a longer recess. The holidays cover major occasions such as Christmas, New Year and the Pongal festival, which is widely celebrated across the state. Educational institutions will resume classes after the holiday period as per the academic calendar issued by the School Education Department.
Officials said the break is part of the routine holiday schedule and is intended to allow students and staff to participate in festival celebrations and family gatherings. Parents have been advised to take note of the reopening date and ensure students return to school as scheduled.
The School Education Department has also clarified that academic activities will continue without disruption after the holidays, with schools expected to adhere to the prescribed syllabus and timetable for the remaining academic year.
