A public meeting of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) led by actor-turned-politician Vijay is scheduled for Thursday, with Erode police imposing strict restrictions, limiting the event to a two-hour window from 11 am to 1 pm.

The meeting will be held at an HR&CE-controlled venue near the Vijayamangalam toll plaza, which has a seating capacity of about 25,000 people.

Police have made QR code–based entry passes mandatory to regulate crowd movement and ensure safety. Ambulances and fire service vehicles must be stationed at the venue, with separate seating arrangements for women. Organisers have also been directed to comply with HR&CE conditions, including a ₹50,000 security deposit, payment of an equal amount as rent, prior police clearance for speakers, adequate drinking water and food facilities, and complete post-event cleaning of the premises.

TVK general secretary N Anand has urged party cadres to avoid bringing pregnant women, elderly persons, and infants, and cautioned supporters against risky acts such as chasing Vijay’s convoy on motorcycles.

The meeting assumes political significance following the recent induction of former AIADMK strongman Sengottaiyan, a key leader from the Erode–Gobichettipalayam region, into TVK. His entry has drawn sharp attention as the party steps up mobilisation ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

Chief Coordinator Sengottaiyan said all arrangements were being made in compliance with rules, including facilities such as drinking water, 12 ambulances for medical emergencies, fire and rescue services, 40 CCTV cameras and adequate toilet facilities.

Heightened safety measures come in the backdrop of the September stampede at a TVK meeting in Karur, in which 42 people lost their lives, prompting authorities to enforce stringent crowd control protocols.

Vijay’s address to party cadres is expected to underline TVK’s expanding regional presence and organisational discipline, as the party seeks to consolidate alliances and position itself strongly in Tamil Nadu’s increasingly charged political landscape.
