The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday released the draft electoral rolls for West Bengal, including a separate list of voters whose names are proposed to be excluded following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
The draft voter list, now available on the ECI portal and the Chief Electoral Officerās website, reflects the conclusion of the statewide SIR process that revised the rolls for the upcoming polls. As part of the exercise, around 58 lakh voter names have been deleted from the 2025 list on grounds including death, permanent relocation, absence from the registered address or duplication.
Voters are urged to verify their names in the draft roll online, through the ECI Net or BLO mobile app, or at local electoral offices. If an individual finds their name missing, they can file a claim or objection using Form 6 with supporting identity and address documents such as EPIC, by the deadline set for January 15, 2026. Hearings on objections and corrections will be held as part of the revision process before the final electoral roll is published ahead of next yearās elections.
The exercise aims to ensure an updated and accurate voter list, though the large number of deletions has heightened public attention and prompted calls for careful review.
