The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) is set to issue sales certificates to authorised street vendors as part of efforts to regulate footpath vending and improve urban management. The Corporation has also announced a revised annual fee system to ensure transparency and uniformity in vendor charges.
Vendors occupying more than 25 sq. ft. will pay ₹3,000 per year.
Mobile vendors without a fixed spot will pay ₹1,500 annually.
Full-time permanent vendors will pay 1% to 3% of government guideline value, with minimum fees from ₹750 to ₹3,000.
Part-time vendors will pay lower rates starting at ₹375, while head-load vendors will be charged ₹250 per year.
A GCC official said, “This revised model will formalise street vending, give vendors official recognition, and help improve the management of urban spaces across Chennai.”
The initiative aims to balance the livelihoods of street vendors with the city’s need for orderly public spaces.
