Dhaka, Dec 29: Bangladesh has firmly rejected recent concerns raised by India over attacks on Hindu minorities, insisting that such incidents are isolated criminal acts and not indicative of systematic persecution. The position was articulated by the Bangladeshi foreign ministry, which dismissed India’s characterisation of minority hostilities as exaggerated and misleading. In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said India’s remarks do not reflect the actual situation on the ground and urged Indian quarters to stop spreading narratives that could harm bilateral relations and mutual trust. Dhaka emphasised its longstanding tradition of communal harmony and rejected claims that Hindus or other minorities are being systematically targeted.
Responding to India’s reference to recent incidents, including the widely reported killing of a Hindu youth in Mymensingh, Bangladesh noted that such events stem from criminal behaviour rather than targeted religious persecution. The foreign ministry also disputed other cited incidents, saying some involved individuals with criminal records and did not amount to minority victimisation.
Bangladesh urged restraint and accurate reporting to preserve the spirit of good neighbourly relations, saying isolated crimes should not be amplified or misrepresented as a pattern of discrimination or violence against communities.
