Madurai, Dec 31: Union Minister of State and BJP leader L. Murugan on Tuesday accused the ruling DMK government of disrespecting the Constitution and Dr B.R. Ambedkar by failing to honour the High Court verdict permitting the lighting of the Karthigai Deepam lamp at Tirupparankundram hill.Speaking to reporters after paying respects to Poornachandran, who allegedly died by suicide over the issue, Murugan said the government prevented devotees and even CISF personnel from lighting the ceremonial lamp, thereby denying Hindus their right to worship guaranteed by the Constitution.
He alleged that instead of implementing the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court order, the DMK tried to challenge the judge and the verdict, which angered devotees.
Accusing the DMK of “trampling the Constitution,” Murugan warned that people would deliver a political response. He said he prayed to Lord Murugan to “grant wisdom” to Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and asserted that devotees have long awaited permission to light the Deepam lamp.
