The price of commercial LPG cylinders has been raised at the start of 2026, affecting hotels, restaurants and other business users in the city. Oil companies have increased the cost of a 19-kg commercial gas cylinder by ₹110, bringing the new selling price to ₹1,849.50 in Chennai.
The revision, which came into effect on January 1, was implemented based on fluctuations in global crude oil prices and currency changes, as monthly LPG rates are reviewed by oil marketing firms. Despite the rise in commercial cylinder rates, the price of domestic LPG cylinders (14.2 kg) remains unchanged.
The sudden increase has drawn attention from commercial users, who say the cost rise may impact operating expenses for small businesses and eateries, even as households continue to pay the same rate for household cylinders.
