As the draft electoral roll for Tamil Nadu has been published under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, a large number of citizens are applying to have their names included in the voter list ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections in April-May next year.According to the State Election Commission, so far 7,35,191 people have submitted Form-6 applications to add their names to the voter list after the publication of the draft roll. At the same time, 9,505 applications have been received from those seeking to remove their names from the voters’ list.
The draft roll, released recently, showed that 97,37,831 electors were deleted from the list following the SIR process. The deletions include those who have shifted residence, are deceased, or were enrolled multiple times. Residents whose names are missing in the draft are eligible to apply for inclusion by submitting Form-6 along with a self-declaration and supporting documents.
The Election Commission has kept the window for filing claims and objections open until January 18, 2026, after which the applications will be scrutinised and the final voters’ list will be published around mid-February.
The ongoing revision is part of efforts to ensure that the electoral rolls are updated and accurate, giving all eligible citizens the opportunity to exercise their democratic right to vote in the upcoming polls.
