The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced new rules to make obtaining FASTag easier, effective February 1. Under the revised rules, the Know Your Vehicle (KYV) procedure will not be required for light motor vehicles like cars, jeeps, and vans.
The NHAI said the change aims to reduce delays and difficulties caused by the KYV verification. Vehicles that already have FASTag will not need KYV verification. KYV will now be required only in cases where FASTags were issued incorrectly or if there are complaints.
Key points of the new rules:
New FASTags must be activated after verifying vehicle details in the VAHAN database.
Confirmation of FASTag activation in the database will no longer be needed.
For vehicles not in the VAHAN database, banks can activate FASTag after checking the RC book.
FASTags bought online must also have vehicle details verified in the VAHAN database.
The NHAI said the revised process will make getting FASTag faster and more convenient for vehicle owners.
