The election campaign for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections has taken a decisive turn with the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) officially joining forces with the AIADMK-led alliance, boosting the opposition front against the ruling DMK government. PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss confirmed the development after meeting AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) in Chennai, where both leaders addressed reporters on the alliance and its strategic goals.
Addressing the media, EPS said the partnership with PMK is part of a strong coalition that also includes the AIADMK and the BJP, aimed at creating a government capable of ousting the DMK in the upcoming polls. He emphasised that the alliance is structured to contest all 234 assembly seats with a unified front and that the combined leadership of the three parties will work tirelessly across the state to secure victory.
Anbumani Ramadoss described PMK’s entry into the alliance as a moment of pride and a fulfilment of the expectations of party supporters. He said the party is committed to working with the AIADMK and its allies in a collective effort to build a “victory alliance” for 2026.
Political analysts view PMK’s decision as a significant boost to the AIADMK-led coalition, particularly in regions where the Vanniyar community — a key voter base — holds influence. The larger alliance reflects the broader strategy of opposition parties in Tamil Nadu to consolidate anti-incumbency votes and present a united challenge to the DMK at the polls.
With campaign efforts ramping up and alliances taking shape, the battle lines for the next assembly elections — widely expected in early 2026 — are becoming clearer as parties jostle for position and support across the state.
