The historical drama Draupathi 2 is now set for a Pongal release, as confirmed by the film’s makers. Originally planned for a late-January debut, the sequel’s producers decided to move up the release schedule after space opened up in the festive slate due to delays affecting other major films.Directed by Mohan G Kshatriyan and produced by Netaji Productions in association with G.M. Film Corporation, Draupathi 2 continues the legacy of its predecessor with a story drawn from South Indian history, focusing on the valor and resistance of regional kings during the Hoysala empire era.
The shift to a Pongal release — one of the most coveted slots in the Tamil cinema calendar — comes as the postponement of Jana Nayagan has created a valuable opening for other releases. This strategic timing is expected to boost Draupathi 2’s visibility and box office prospects during the festival period.
Starring Richard Rishi and Rakshana Induchoodan in lead roles, the film also features a strong ensemble cast including Natti Natraj, Y.G. Mahendran, Saravana Subbiah, Bharani, Vela Ramamoorthy, Siraj Johnny, Dinesh Lamba, Ganesh Gaurang, Divi, Devayani Sharma, and Arunodayan. The technical team boasts music by Ghibran, cinematography by Philip R. Sundar, and art direction by Kamalnathan.
