In a bid to enhance passenger comfort and amenities, the Southern Railway has approved the modernisation of resting rooms and short-stay accommodation facilities at Chennai Central Railway Station—one of the busiest railway hubs in the country.
Under the Redevelop, Operate, Maintain and Transfer (ROMT) approach, the existing facilities—which were earlier maintained by railway authorities—will be upgraded to provide a more pleasant and comfortable stay for travellers. The project includes refurbishment of 23 air-conditioned beds in the men’s block, 5 in the women’s block, and renovation of unused spaces to modern standards.
Strategically located in the heart of the station’s concourse, the improved amenities will give passengers easy access to platforms, eateries and other services, helping meet the growing demand for quality short-stay accommodation. Qualified companies are invited to participate in the tender process, with contracts awarded for five years, extendable by two years based on performance.
The initiative reflects Southern Railway’s ongoing commitment to provide safe, comfortable and enhanced travel experiences for passengers using Chennai Central.
