The Deep Depression over the Bay of Bengal weakened into a depression and will be crossing the North Sri Lanka coast today.
In an update today, Met office said the Deep Depression over southwest Bay of Bengal moved west-northwestwards with a speed of 12 kmph during the past 6 hours and weakened into a Depression.
It lay centred at 0530 hours of today, over southwest Bay of Bengal off Northeast Sri Lanka coast about 50 km east-northeast of Trincomalee (Sri Lanka), 120 km north of Batticaloa (Sri Lanka), 210 km north of Pottuvil (Sri Lanka), 310 km southeast of Karaikal (Puducherry) and 490 km south -southeast of Chennai (Tamil Nadu).
It is likely to continue to move west-northwestwards and cross the North Sri Lanka coast between Trincomalee and Jaffna as a Depression around noon/afternoon of today.
