Final preparations are underway at the Sabarimala temple for the annual Magara Jyothi ceremony, scheduled for January 14, 2026.
The event is one of the most anticipated spiritual occasions at Sabarimala, drawing hundreds of thousands of pilgrims from across Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and other states. Devotees gather atop the Malika hill, eagerly awaiting the appearance of the sacred flame, believed to signify Lord Ayyappa’s divine grace.
Temple authorities have stepped up security measures, deploying additional police personnel, arranging medical and first-aid stations, and implementing crowd control protocols to ensure the safety of the massive gathering. Sanitation, drinking water facilities, and temporary shelters have also been set up for the convenience of devotees who stay overnight at the pilgrimage site.
The Magara Jyothi, appearing from the hilltop, is considered a miraculous and auspicious event, marking the end of the mandala season. Devotees believe that witnessing the Jyothi brings blessings, prosperity, and spiritual upliftment. Officials have urged pilgrims to maintain discipline, follow instructions, and respect temple traditions while participating in the event.
In addition to the main ceremony, traditional rituals and annadanam (community meals) are organized to accommodate pilgrims, reflecting the temple’s long-standing commitment to faith, devotion, and community service.
