Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin attended and thoroughly enjoyed the Alanganallur Jallikattu competition held today in Madurai district, witnessing one of Tamil Nadu’s most iconic traditional sports up close.

The world-famous Jallikattu event, which is a central part of the Pongal festival celebrations, commenced early this morning at Alanganallur. The competition draws hundreds of bulls and tamer participants, celebrating centuries-old rural traditions and showcasing the courage and skill of bull tamers.

On his arrival from Madurai, Stalin was enthusiastically welcomed by supporters and local residents along the route to the venue. He watched the spirited spectacle of bulls emerging from the vaadi vaasal (entry gate) and the valiant efforts of the bull tamers, expressing appreciation for the age-old cultural tradition.

During the event, the Chief Minister honored one of the winning bull owners by presenting a gold ring, acknowledging the animal’s strength and performance in the arena.

The Chief Minister declared that outstanding bull tamers who achieve notable success in the competitions will be considered for government jobs.

While details regarding the number of jobs, eligibility criteria, and specific government departments were not fully outlined during the announcement, the decision was welcomed by supporters as a move to honour and encourage participants in this culturally significant sport.

Stalin was accompanied by key members of his cabinet, including Minister P. Moorthy, K.N. Nehru, P.T.R. Palanivel Thiagarajan, and Sathoor Ramachandran, who also observed the competition.
