Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam (OPS) has hinted that his political front’s official alliance announcement for the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections will be made within the next day or two, keeping political observers and party workers keenly awaiting the development.
Paying tribute to party founder M.G. Ramachandran (MGR) on his 109th birth anniversary at the MGR statue on Anna Salai, OPS said that the dream of uniting all those who parted ways from the AIADMK can only be fulfilled if the splinter groups come together. He stressed unity among leaders who had left the AIADMK fold as a way to honour MGR’s legacy.
Asked about his alliance plans, OPS told reporters that he would officially reveal his alliance partner within the next “one or two days.” He also noted that he had not received an invitation to a prime ministerial rally where leaders from the BJP‑led alliance were present, underscoring uncertainty in his ties with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
Addressing speculation surrounding his political direction, OPS said he would not form a new political party at any time, signalling that his future move would involve aligning with an existing group rather than creating a separate outfit.
The announcement comes amid fluid electoral politics in Tamil Nadu, where multiple regional leaders and parties are considering shifting alliances in the run‑up to the polls. Political analysts have pointed to a range of possibilities, including cooperation with like‑minded regional outfits such as TTV Dhinakaran’s AMMK or Vijay’s recently formed TVK, though no formal decision has yet been made public.
