Power supply will be suspended in several areas of Chennai on Friday as part of routine maintenance and repair work undertaken by the Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO), officials said on Thursday.
According to an official release, the scheduled power cut will be in force from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., during which electricity supply will be temporarily stopped to facilitate essential maintenance of distribution lines and equipment. Supply will be restored immediately after the completion of the works.
The outage will affect parts of the following localities:
GNT Road area: Vijibi Santhosh Nagar, Brindhavan Garden, Iyer Thottam, Samiyar Thottam, Thanikachalam Nagar (F Block), Anna Salai, Kamatchi Nagar, Vasudevan Thottam, VOC Street and surrounding areas.
Thirumudivakkam area: Indira Nagar, Guru Nagar, Vivekananda Nagar, Pazhanthandalam, Nagan Street and nearby localities.
Residents and commercial establishments in the affected areas have been advised to plan their activities in advance to avoid inconvenience. TANGEDCO officials said such shutdowns are necessary to ensure the safety and reliability of the power distribution network and to prevent unplanned outages in the future.
Power supply may be restored earlier than scheduled if the maintenance work is completed ahead of time, the officials added.
