The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday said that over 15 lakh people in Tamil Nadu have applied to have their names included in the electoral roll, amid ongoing revisions ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
The applications were filed after the draft electoral roll was published on December 19, 2025, following a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise conducted across the State.
During this process, nearly 97 lakh names were removed from the draft list due to various reasons such as voters being deceased, shifted to other addresses or duplicate entries. .
According to the ECI, a total of 15,65,454 people have so far applied for inclusion in the votersā list by submitting Form 6 to the respective booth-level officers. The move is part of the exercise to ensure eligible citizens are not left out of the final electoral roll.
In addition to inclusion requests, the Commission has also received 87,579 applications for removal of names from the voter list, reflecting continuous efforts to keep the electoral database accurate and up to date.
Eligible voters, especially those whose names were deleted due to address changes during the SIR process, can submit Form 6 before the extended deadline of January 30, 2026 to get their names restored to the voter list.
Booth-level officers are actively involved in distributing and collecting the forms, and political party agents are assisting applicants in completing the process.
The revision of the voter list is part of the Election Commissionās wider effort to uphold the integrity of the electoral rolls and to safeguard the voting rights of all eligible electors ahead of the upcoming elections.
