Chennai witnessed a historic cinematic event as 34 independent films, created by students of renowned cinematographer and filmmaker Chezhiyan, were launched simultaneously. This marks a first in global film history where films by all students of a single institute premiered together.The launch event brought together prominent personalities including editors P. Lenin and Sreekar Prasad, cinematographers P. C. Sreeram and Ravivarman, art director Trotsky Marudu, producer-critic Dhananjeyan, directors Gnana Rajasekaran and Hariharan, sound designer Thapus Nayak, film scholar Dr. Thayappan, and writers Pattukottai Prabakar and Tamil Praba.
Chezhiyan spoke about his vision of nurturing organic cinema, combining literature, art, and technical skills, and encouraging students to create films ranging from small-budget projects to large-scale productions. He highlighted the inspiration drawn from international film movements and emphasized the importance of collaborative creativity.
The 34 films cover diverse themes, with each student showcasing unique storytelling. The event also included awards for short films and documentaries, with industry veterans congratulating the young filmmakers.
