Congress leaders from Tamil Nadu responded strongly after DMK legislators criticised them over talks about power-sharing and seat allocation ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. The issue came up after a DMK MLA in Madurai North suggested that some Congress MPs should not get seats in the upcoming polls. In reply, Congress MPs B. Manickam Tagore and S. Jothimani rejected the criticism and defended their party’s role in the alliance. Tagore said he plans to contest from Madurai North, the same seat mentioned by the DMK MLA, and made it clear that Congress leaders will not be ignored. Jothimani said she would respond firmly if the Congress is insulted in public.
The exchange shows some tension within the DMK–Congress alliance as election preparations continue. Congress leaders also stressed that decisions on seat sharing will be made by the party’s national leadership, not by local remarks.
