Southern Railway has reported a strong revenue performance in the current financial year. From April to December 2025, the railway zone earned about Rs. 9,846 crore, which is 7.5% higher than the same period last year. The growth came from both freight and passenger services. Southern Railway handled 30.54 million tonnes of goods, up from 29.34 million tonnes last year. It also carried more passengers, with 57.9 crore travellers, showing an increase in demand.
During this period, the zone ran 3,570 special trains besides regular services. It also introduced new trains, upgraded many coaches to modern LHB types, and improved train speeds.
Southern Railway has worked on station facilities too. It added lifts, escalators, Foot Over Bridges and raised platforms at many stations. More than 140 stations are now fully accessible for disabled passengers.
Track electrification continues, with over 4,900 km of lines electrified, and safety systems have been strengthened on hundreds of track sections.
This growth reflects improved operations and rising demand for both freight and passenger rail services in the region.
