Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated the women’s summit at Nandambakkam in Chennai on January 27 and said that women are the backbone of society.
He highlighted the vital role women play in families, communities, and the economy, stressing that the state and the nation cannot progress unless women advance equally.
Stalin noted that Tamil Nadu leads the country in women’s workforce participation, and urged women to step out boldly into new sectors and take on leadership roles in various fields.
He pointed to free bus travel and school midday meal schemes as initiatives that have helped more women join the workforce without difficulty.
The Chief Minister also highlighted government efforts to enhance women’s safety and well-being, including ’Thozhi’ hostels for women and special health services like free cervical cancer vaccines for 3 lakh girls and a dedicated ₹120 crore hospital for breast cancer care in Kanchipuram district.
He added that women-led startups are growing in the state and schemes such as Puthumai Pen, Naan Muthalvan, and Magalir Urimai Thogai are strengthening equality and opportunity for women across Tamil Nadu.
