
Reiterating the government’s long-term vision to make India a global leader in the services sector by 2047, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced key policy steps to strengthen the sector amid rapid technological change.
Speaking on emerging technologies and artificial intelligence, Nirmala Sitharaman said the government will set up a high-powered committee to recommend measures to position the services sector as a core growth driver of Viksit Bharat. The committee will focus on enhancing competitiveness, innovation, and employment generation across services such as IT, finance, tourism, healthcare, and professional services.
She added that the panel will also assess the impact of emerging technologies and AI on jobs, with a view to ensuring workforce readiness and inclusive growth. The recommendations are expected to guide policy interventions that balance technological advancement with employment protection and skill development.
