As speculation swirls over seat-sharing and alliance dynamics ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president K. Selvaperunthagai has urged all district-level party leaders not to make public comments on the alliance situation, emphasizing that such matters are to be handled only by the party’s national leadership. Speaking to the media during a function in Madurai, Selvaperunthagai addressed ongoing discussions about the Congress party’s seat allocation and broader alliance arrangements with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). He stressed that all negotiations on constituency sharing are being managed by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) and that state leaders or district officials should refrain from speaking publicly on these issues to avoid confusion.
Selvaperunthagai also reiterated that the Congress has no disagreement or conflict with the DMK, and that the two parties remain strong allies in the upcoming polls. He stated that a talks panel for alliance discussions will be formed soon on behalf of the Congress, and that senior party officials from the national leadership will lead those negotiations.
On broader political issues, Selvaperunthagai condemned the Central government’s decision to drop Mahatma Gandhi’s name from the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, saying the Congress would continue its protests against the move. He added that the party will join the DMK in related demonstrations, reflecting a united front on key policy matters.
