Vijay, the founder and president of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), is scheduled to address a meeting of party functionaries in Salem today as part of the party’s campaign build-up ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections.
The event, organised exclusively for TVK executives and members of the party will take place at a private ground near Seelanaickenpatti in Salem district. Police had initially rejected TVK’s request for a large public rally citing security and crowd management concerns. Following this, the party revised its application and secured permission for an internal meeting limited to functionaries.
Attendance at the meeting is strictly capped at 5,000 participants, and entry is being closely controlled through QR-coded passes issued to authorised party workers. Organisers have emphasised that the gathering will not be open to the general public due to police restrictions and safety protocols.
The meeting is scheduled from midday to the afternoon. Local police have imposed several conditions for the event’s conduct, including identity checks and arrangements for basic amenities.
Security has been significantly stepped up ahead of the meeting, with around 600 police personnel deployed.
