The Greater Chennai Corporation has commenced asphalt re-laying work on Tank Bund Road in Nungambakkam, nearly a week after the stretch was milled, following complaints from motorists and residents over dust and uneven surfaces.Tank Bund Road, a key arterial stretch connecting major city roads and residential neighbourhoods, witnesses heavy daily traffic. After the top layer was removed as part of resurfacing works, the road remained in a rough condition for several days, leading to traffic congestion and inconvenience to commuters.
Civic officials said asphalt laying has now begun and efforts are being taken to complete the work at the earliest to restore smooth vehicular movement. The relaying forms part of a broader infrastructure improvement drive covering several roads across the city.
The Corporation has identified a number of bus route roads and interior stretches for resurfacing ahead of the upcoming season to ensure durability and enhance commuter safety.
Residents of Nungambakkam had raised concerns about dust pollution and travel delays during the interim period. With the resurfacing work under way, traffic flow in the locality is expected to normalise soon.
