Congress MP Manickam Tagore has openly challenged his party’s leadership over ongoing discussions about power‑sharing with the DMK ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
In recent days, Tagore has urged that the Congress must take a clearer stand on obtaining a share in governance within the DMK‑led alliance, arguing that party workers deserve respect and a meaningful role rather than just electoral seat allocations. He has reiterated that he communicated his views after meeting with senior leadership and suggested that ultimate decisions should involve top leaders.
Tagore’s remarks have triggered internal tensions: the state Congress leadership has cautioned members against making public comments on alliance matters and indicated that only the All India Congress Committee (AICC) can decide such issues. Party officials have submitted reports to the central leadership, warning that continued public statements could strain the coalition with the DMK.
