The holy month of Ramzan (Ramadan) began on February 19, marking the start of a month-long period of fasting and spiritual observance for the Muslim community across Tamil Nadu and the rest of India.During Ramzan, practicing Muslims abstain from food and drink from dawn until sunset, focusing on prayer, reflection, charity and self-discipline. The fast is one of the five pillars of Islam and holds deep religious significance as a time for strengthening faith and empathy for those less fortunate.
Mosques and community centres have organised special Taraweeh prayers, Iftar gatherings and charitable activities to support underprivileged groups throughout the month. The observance is expected to continue until mid-March, culminating in the festival of Eid al-Fitr, when families and communities come together to celebrate with festive meals, prayers and social events.
