In a major relief for suburban commuters, Southern Railway has announced the introduction of 20 additional fast electric multiple unit (EMU) trains between Tambaram and Chennai Beach. The move is aimed at improving connectivity and reducing congestion on one of the busiest suburban corridors in Tamil Nadu.
With the addition of these services, up to 20 fast EMU trains are expected to operate per hour on the Tambaram–Chennai Beach route during peak timings. The enhanced frequency is set to significantly cut travel time and ease overcrowding, particularly for office-goers and daily passengers.
The newly introduced fast trains will have selective halts at key stations such as Chennai Egmore, Guindy and Mambalam. These stops have been chosen to ensure faster travel while maintaining accessibility to important commercial and residential hubs across the city.
The Tambaram–Chennai Beach suburban line witnesses heavy passenger traffic every day. Railway officials believe the additional fast services will improve travel frequency, provide quicker connectivity and enhance overall efficiency of the suburban rail network.
Passengers have been advised to check the revised timetable through official railway channels before planning their journeys.
